A vulnerable ecosystem is in danger. Santander Bank is advising Saguaro Energia, a massive fossil fuel expansion project. It threatens the birthing ground of the magnificent blue whale and other marine wildlife in a UNESCO World Heritage site.
We need YOUR help to put pressure on Santander to reconsider its involvement in this reckless project that will cause major harm to a rare safe haven for wildlife.
Santander, a global banking giant responsible for over $17 billion in fossil fuel financing in 2024 alone, is supporting the development of a new liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminal in the Gulf of California. The Gulf, a biodiversity hotspot dubbed the "Aquarium of the World," is home to roughly one-third of the world's marine mammal species, including fin whales, humpback whales, and the critically endangered Vaquita porpoise. It boasts 900 species of fish, and it's one of the few places on the planet where blue whales return each year to give birth and raise their young.
If this climate-wrecking LNG project is built, it will destroy the irreplaceable sanctuary that endangered porpoises, baby whales, leatherback sea turtles and more marine animals desperately need to survive. Together, we must ratchet up the pressure on major banks, like Santander, to stop financing destruction and start funding sustainable solutions that will save our climate and our last wild places.
TAKE ACTION:
Add your name to tell Santander to stop backing fossil fuel expansion that endangers blue whales and other vulnerable marine life in the Gulf of California.
