The Men’s World Cup will bring joy to billions who will gather around screens in every corner of the planet to watch the action.
There’s no doubt that football is the most popular sport in the world: it transcends language, culture, and geography, connecting people in a way few other things can.
But this World Cup is unlike any that has come before. Climate change is making extreme heat more likely, [1] and dozens of games are going to be played in sky-high temperatures that threaten the safety of players and fans. [2]
And those who have contributed most to our warming planet, Saudi Aramco and Coca-Cola, [3] have been welcomed with open arms by FIFA as key sponsors.
FIFA says it wants to promote sustainability. Yet the company continues to take money from corporations fueling the very pollution that puts players, fans, and host cities at risk. [4]
FIFA cannot claim to care about the future of the game while helping fossil fuel companies clean up their reputations. It’s time we hold them accountable.
Add your name now and tell FIFA: Stop helping fossil fuel polluters clean up their name through sponsorships.
